THE WAY I WEAR MY HAIR

THE WAY I WEAR MY HAIR

I am a woman. I am black. I am a Stroooooooooong Black Woman… erm, am I?

Rachael Young invites you to become fellow researchers in her quest to find alternative female identities. Weaving a tale of her hair; natural to synthetic, straight to kinky and everywhere in between, Rachael investigates own hair identity and questions the labels we give ourselves.

The Way I Wear My Hair was originally created in response to a commission from Serendipity (Leicester) to create a work as part of ‘Black History Season LIVE’ at Curve. It later toured it to The Yard Theatre’s N.O.W 14 festival (London), Nottingham Playhouse, Curve, Shift Festival (Contact, Manchester) and Derby Theatre.  It was supported by Arts Council England, Curve, Leicester, Derby Theatre, Serendipity Leicester and The Yard.

The Way I Wear My Hair is now available for future touring.
