We are seeking two Black queer, trans+ or gender non-conforming dance performers of Caribbean heritage for a restaging of Ray Young’s award-winning work OUT for a UK tour in spring 2024. Defiantly challenging homophobia and transphobia, OUT is a duet – a conversation between two bodies, carving out a new kind of space, reclaiming Dancehall and celebrating Vogue culture amongst the bittersweet scent of oranges.

We are looking for:

  • Queer and trans+ or gender non-conforming Black performers of Caribbean heritage
  • We are aware of the different dance scenes and backgrounds people develop their skills within. We welcome performers whose experience and ability has been developed through non-traditional training, as much as those who are professionally trained dancers
  • Being from a Dancehall and/or Vogueing tradition is a plus, and strong improvisation skills and performance experience are essential

Notes for applicants:

  • OUT contains partial nudity — please contact us if you’d like more information about this
  • Performers need to be available for the duration of the rehearsal periods and all show dates (details below). There will likely be additional show dates added for spring 2024 in the UK

  • Rehearsal period 1: 22 January – 4 February 2024
  • Rehearsal period 2: 26 February – 3 March 2024
  • Shows: 19-21 March, 4-6 April, 25-27 April, 7 June 2024
  • Additional shows and rehearsal periods TBC

To apply:

  • Please submit a CV, headshot and 2 min reel/video that includes a quick intro about yourself, and some footage of you dancing/moving
  • Submissions should be sent to [email protected]
  • Submission deadline is midday on Monday 2 October
